Sourcing Genuine Antique Furniture

Sourcing genuine antique furniture can sometimes be difficult as if you browse around auctions and many fairs and shops the sellers are not obliged to tell you if the piece is an original genuine piece of antique furniture unless they are a LAPADA or other similar member. Like us, at Driscolls antiques Ltd are LAPADA members and so only deal in genuine antique furniture that we sympathetically restore using traditional methods.

It never fails to surprise how many try to pass off lesser goods as genuine originals purely for their own personal gain. The problem is that there are cases each and every day where someone without the knowledge and an eye for the finest detail could possibly notice the differences between two similar items. This can be a serious issue, as even the smallest details can make a big difference to the value of a piece.

It is for this exact reason that any person looking to source genuine antique furniture should only trust a well established antiques dealer who specialises in antique furniture, like Driscolls antiques. Our pieces are quality genuine antique furniture but at affordable prices and not over priced like so many other dealers. Whether you are looking for antique desks, antique chest of drawers, wardrobes or anything else for your home check out our website and view beautiful pieces of antique furniture that we can deliver direct to your home.

Please support our 0 rate vat for recycled, secondhand and antique goods e petition

Driscolls antiques have started our own e petition on the government website

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/2544

We believe all recycled, secondhand and antiques goods should be 0 rated for VAT. This will promote more people to start buying and selling the goods and encourage recycling.

New items are often purchased and then thrown away. For example a new piece of furniture is recorded to last the average of 5 to 7 years and then is thrown away.

Antique furniture has been built to last and no trees are being cut down to make antique furniture, unlike the modern equivalent and antique furniture was originally mainly constructed by hand in daylight so no power tools or lighting was used.

There is minimal transport with second hand goods as they are already in the country so not imported from overseas and the money used to buy second hand goods will be spent in this country, not sent abroad, out of the country. This will produce more growth in our own country whilst helping our environment.

Please sign our e petition and show support for the antiques and recycling trade as not only will this produce growth in our industry but it will also promote the recycling and eco friendliness that the country need to embrace for the future.

Please sign our e petition at

please also link to this page to help spread the word.

Timeless pieces of Antique Furniture

Antique furniture has stood the test of time and will do so for many more years to come and much better than many modern types of furniture because antique furniture has been built from quality timbers that you cannot get today. Most modern furniture is constructed from cheep materials and made to look like wood; this is why they become unusable after a few years. Whether it be antique bookcases, stunningly opulent wardrobes or perhaps a simple but well constructed antique chest of drawers, there is quite simply no home that can possibly fail to benefit from the inclusion of stunning antiques.

One of the main merits of antique furniture is that they will blend in with any other interior décor theme seamlessly and with truly effortless beauty. From the most modern, minimalist interior to traditional homes, the inclusion of antiques adds a new dimension to any theme and compliments anything and everything around. Furthermore, there is also the additional bonus that comes by way of antiques having already proven their timelessness and ability to stand the test of time, therefore there is no question whatsoever as to whether or not they will continue to remain truly decadent for many years, decades and generations to come. They are not only decorative but very useable and if you decide to sell them in years to come you still have a valuable asset to sell.
