Earlier in the year Driscolls antiques sold some pieces of antique furniture to the Lincoln Centre Theatre in New York, and these pieces were used in a show called ‘A Minister’s Wife’

A MINISTER’S WIFE is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw’s Candida, it is set in London and is about a love triangle among a Socialist clergyman, Reverend James Morell, his wife, Candida, and Eugene Marchbanks, who, infatuated with Candida, aims to win her love.

Fancy a bottle of Bubbly for £25,000

Found in a shipwreck at the bottom of the Baltic Sea last year, A bottle of nearly 200 year old champagne has been sold for over £25,000 at an auction in Finland.

The Veuve Clicquot bubbly was bought by an anonymous bidder from Singapore who bought other early bottles of champagne and amazingly they were all in superb condition.

In total more than 140 bottles were discovered by the divers all dating around 1825-1830 and was perfectly preserved because of the conditions of dark and cold seabed.

A very nice find, and what a drink to offer your guests, a 200 year old bottle of crisp champagne in the centre of your antique dining table.

A very recognisable gold, sapphire and diamond expandable bracelet by Giorgio Facchini  was stolen from the Country Life – LAPADA Object of the Year stand at Olympia.  The thieves managed to unlock the acrylic case secured to the pedestal whilst the stand was being manned and the Fair open to the public.  We suspect that they were working as a pair and one distracted the person looking after the stand whilst the other set to work.

The description is -

Unique 18ct gold and enamel bangle set with sapphires and diamonds.
Internal diameter 6.5 cm
Width of gold band: 2.5 cm

Don’t just buy antique furniture because it’s cheap or old

When you look at a piece of antique furniture and it seems very cheap ask yourself first why it is so cheaply priced. Also don’t just go from the age of the piece as some later Edwardian pieces of antique furniture are much more valuable than some 17^th century pieces. A prime example is someone came and showed me a 17^th century sideboard they wanted to sell and they really did not want much money for it. But when i inspected the piece it had cut down and badly repaired feet, it was converted from several pieces from the 17^th century and it had well disguised repairs.

You would probably see this piece fetch around £300 at auction and what a bargain it would look at such a low price, but all you would be buying would be a marriage, badly repaired and will never go up in value.
