The £25000 cigar box!

Recently in an antiques auction, a cigar box has been sold for £25,000 but this was not any ordinary cigar box but was owned by the captain of the Titanic.

The walnut antique box was found on an antique cabinet in Liverpool and had been lying around her home for 20 years.

The antique box carries the emblem of the White Star Line shipping company and bears the initials of the master of the passenger liner, Edward John Smith, who was from Stoke-on-Trent and captain of the Titanic.

The RMS Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast and sank after hitting an iceberg in the North Atlantic on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York in 1912.

Apparently the antique box had been in the family for generations and had been given to the owners farther by relatives of Edward John Smith’s widow.

The box is lined with camphor wood and was designed to hold 40 of the finest Havana cigars.

What a nice find, how surprised they must have been when they discovered the true identity of this antique box and just sat there for all them years gathering dust on the antique furniture piece.

£375.00

Total:……………….. £375.00

Hope I will get these Items in required quantity? Concerning Shipment of these products, We would prefer it to be handled by a private freight shipping company in Europe, This is because our past experiences with the regular courier services is not awesome, They have done some imports for us and we are not too okay in their service delivery. Hence we had been in the use of service of a private freight shipping company in Europe and so far so good. Moreso, the safety of the goods being imported require exceptional attention which is very paramount and we can only get from a private firm. They have their field agents across  board and will get to you during pick up of goods. Kindly mail them with the following information below to give you quote of the cost of shipment. They traditionally prefer to deal directly with the seller so as to reduce the time factor in processing documentations. You can mail me once you receive the total cost of shipment and other handling fees, I will send you a copy of my credit card information for you to make appropriate charges on the total cost. They will need the information listed below from you hence send a mail to them at  EXPRESSCARGOINT@YAHOO.COM

as you can see the email is a spoof email as they want to use a stolen card, then send someone to collect the goods before the transaction is reported as fraudulent from the real card holder. do not deal with these people or you will find yourselves greatly out of pocket.

Antique silver destroyed due to high metal price

Large amounts of antique silver and antique gold pieces have reported to have been scrapped due to precious metal prices hitting record highs.

The week dollar and the problems in the Middle East have caused Gold to rise as high as £918 an ounce and silver £30 an ounce. There have been reports of vast quantities of antique silver being scrapped and melted due to the high demand and high price.

The problem is that the silver and gold pieces value as a raw material is far more than their market value as antique pieces. There are reports of quality Victorian tea sets, Georgian salvers, trophies and cruet sets have been melted by the dustbins being brought in full to the brim by antique dealers.

Let’s hope this madness stops as it is such a shame to melt away our heritage in such a way but this shows what a good investment antique silver, gold and antique furniture can be as not only are these pieces becoming rarer but also going up in value as the markets rise.

The antique bureau, the earliest type of writing desk

Antique bureaux are very early pieces of antique writing furniture as they can date back from the middle of the 17th-century. The earliest versions were in the form of a Cabinet with a fall front, like the bureau, but with swinging gate legs to support the writing fall front when in use. Very often in these pieces you would see Bible Wells to lock away and store your Bible. Antique bureaus from this period were mainly constructed from oak or had exotic veneers like Burr walnut or even oyster veneers. Antique bureaus change their design over the next hundred years to be in the form of a chest of drawers with sliding lopers to support the bureau fall front. This formation stayed right through the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian periods and this is the most popular style of antique bureau available today. In our extensive collection of antique furniture on our antiques website you will see lots of antique bureaus for sale from oak, mahogany and the even fruit wood bureaus. We also have antique bureau bookcases which are a bureau but have a glazed bookcase above and these can be very useful in your study or library. The nicest style of bureau in my opinion, is the Georgian bureau with swan neck handles and we have just placed a fine example for sale and is a antique Georgian oak bureau with a moulded fall front and the interior has several small drawers, small cupboard and several pigeon holes. The lower section of the antique bureau graduating cock beaded drawers with brass swan neck handles and the bureau stands on shaped bracket feet. A very fine example of antique furniture and would suite any home. you would not only be buying a bit of history but also a quality, very usable piece of antique furniture.
