Antique Hepplewhite Dining Chairs

We get very nice antique chairs in stock on a regular basis but a very popular design is the Hepplewhite design. It is difficult to find original Georgian hepplewhite antique furniture but we often do get Hepplewhite design from the late Victorian or Edwardian period.

Only this week we have two sets in stock

The first is an antique set of six Victorian mahogany chairs and they are in the Hepplewhite design. This lovely set have shaped curved backs with pierced back splats and stand on splayed back legs with tapered front legs. The second set is a set of 8 antique Edwardian mahogany dining chairs and they are in the Hepplewhite style with shield shaped backs and beautifully carved back splats with a wheat sheaf design. The antique chairs stand on splayed back legs and have tapering moulded front legs

Because they are later Edwardian and Victorian copies they are very reasonably priced as original sets can cost many thousands of pounds to buy.

The Move – Update

As you may know we are currently in the process of moving antique furniture warehouses. This is a quick update to where we are. We are currently in the process of moving all our antique furniture stock and this will be completed by Saturday. The new signs are going up today and all the workrooms are now finished. There is lots of painting to be done!

On Sunday we will be moving offices and then finally the work rooms.

From Monday all viewings will be at our new premises and the website will be updated with the new address but the telephone number will stay the same. Later in the week I will be putting a blog showing you pictures of the new and improved antique furniture warehouse.

Please also note on Monday we will be having the phone lines put into the new unit so we may not be able to answer emails or calls until the afternoon.

Limited viewings this week

Because we are moving premises this week can only offer limited viewings of our antique furniture as all our stock is currently being moved. It is a huge task so we have lots of extra help to make it a quick and easy move. Our stock will all be in our new unit by Monday 31st November and then we will be back to normal. If you want to view before this date please either telephone or email the piece you wish to view and we will make sure it is accessible to view.

We are very sorry for the disruption but hopefully the move will be quick and easy so you can view all our pieces of antique furniture soon.

Once we have fully moved into our new unit we will be hopefully stocking around 50 % more pieces so giving you a much better choice of quality antiques.

Early Antique Furniture

Early antique furniture can sometimes be primitive looking and constructed in a different way to later pieces. They would use iron corner plates, pegs, clout nails, drawer slides. Early antique furniture is usually plain looking but comes with beautiful grained wood (usually oak) and with a beautiful patina that can only be accomplished with 100s of years of use. They look good in early period property or as a central focus in a modern interior.

We often get good quality period furniture from the 17th century and this week we have some very nice examples for sale.

We have a stunning antique 17th century period oak antique coffer that was constructed between 1650 – 1690 and it has the best looking grained oak with a stunning patina. This antique coffer has a moulded lift up lid above panelled front, back and sides. The front has raised fielded panels and the chest stands on raised feet and because of its age it is of a pegged construction. We also have a very early antique 17th c. period oak chest of drawers probably from the William & Mary period. This early piece of antique furniture four oak lined moulded drawers with brass key escutcheons and handles. The antique chest stands on shaped bracket feet, is of a pegged construction and has panelled sides.

Early pieces of antique furniture are getting much harder to find but we always carry a good stock of period pieces. It always amazes me how they have lasted so long and still be in such good condition for there age. They usually come with some old repairs etc. But this is to be expected on early pieces and it just adds to the character.

Antique bedside cabinets or plant stands?

We have just put up for sale an antique pair of walnut cabinets but are they bedside cabinets or pot cupboards or lamp tables or plant stands? Well originally they would have been designed as pot cupboards but they can be used for any of these purposes today. They are stunning pieces of antique furniture and each cabinet has a beautifully grained marble top with an oak lined drawer and cupboard door all with beautiful intricate brass ormolu mounts. The interior is beautifully marble lined which is very rare and is of the best quality. The antique cupboard stands on elegant turned reeded legs with turned feet and a lower tier.

They are very useful pieces of antique furniture and can be placed anywhere in your home as they are such useful pieces. We mainly only deal in British antique furniture but if the quality is right then we will stock continental furniture and these are such good quality we had to stock them as they are of the best quality.

Matching antique tables and antique chairs

We do occasionally get matching antique tables and antique chairs but most sets that come in stock are not exactly matching. We list all of our antique chairs and antique tables under separate categories and you can then choose which sets you like to go with the table. For example we have a very nice set of chairs and table that would match together very well. They are both constructed from a similar period and are both very similar in colour as they are Cuban mahogany.

The antique set of chairs are a set of six and are balloon back chairs. They are early Victorian and have a double sabre legs. They have been recently upholstered in a neutral velvet fabric and would suit our antique Regency mahogany drop leaf table. The antique table has a rectangular moulded top with two drop leaves above a deep frieze with a mahogany lined cock beaded drawer. The antique table stands on a beautiful turned pedestal with four splayed moulded legs and lion paw castors. They are both very nice pieces of antique furniture and go together very well but why not look at other sets to go with the tables as I do not believe they have to be exactly matching in colour as a slight contrast in colour can look very nice.
