Antique extendable tables

In the Victorian period antique extendable dining tables were very popular. These antique tables became one of the most useful and popular style of antique dining table. Mostly the construction of Victorian antique extendable dining tables would have a wind out mechanism with winding handle (crank handle) and the centre would have from one to five additional removable table leaves. The earlier models of this type of antique table would have been a drawer leaf pull out table but they were the same concept and style.

These antique tables usually stood on turned legs and had casters to they could wind in and out easily. Some of the earlier Georgian tables had a drop leaf centre table with two side tables that joined together to make a large dining table so you would have two console tables and a drop leaf that joint to make a larger antique dining table.

Antique wind out dining tables sometimes had a compartment for storing the additional leaves but this is quite rare to see so when the additional leaves were not in use they would be stored in a dark cupboard and only brought out on special occasions, this is why so often the antique table tops are so different in colour due to fading of the sun light. Antique circular extending dining tables are very rare and can cost a huge amount of money but they are very useful pieces of antique furniture.
