Humidity damage to leather antique seating

On antique seating it is very nice to see the original leather and as it is a very durable material you do often still see it tact as it can take most day to day usage. The main thing that leather is vulnerable to is bad atmospheric conditions like humid air or damp air and even worse if both are together due to poor ventilation. This can cause the growth of mould on leather and this can ruin your seats. Alternatively if your room is extremely dry, the hot air will dry out the leathers natural oils causing the leather to crack and rip.

To avoid any damage try to keep your room temperature to a good temperature and always use a good leather wax or bees wax if you do not have any to keep the leather moist and this will protect it from most things. Having the original leather on antique furniture can not only look very nice but also add more value to the piece.
